When the weather turns wet, children often end up sitting in front of screens. It can be hard to think of ways to keep them active inside, especially when space and money are tight.
The good news is that even on rainy days there are simple ways to keep kids moving. These ideas are fun, free, and easy to set up at home.
Blow up a balloon and try to keep it in the air for as long as possible. This gets children running, stretching, and laughing.
Give children a list of things to find, such as something red, something soft, or something that makes a noise. They will be moving from room to room without even realising it.
Put on some favourite songs and dance together in the living room. Dancing is great for energy and lifts everyone’s mood.
Use cushions, chairs, or blankets to make a simple indoor course. Children can crawl under, step over, or balance along the route.
Not all movement needs to be high energy. Gentle stretching or simple yoga moves can calm children while still getting them moving.
The next time the rain keeps you indoors, choose one of these ideas to try. Just a few minutes of movement can turn a dull afternoon into something fun and active.
